This ring is inspired by samplers. Samplers are traditional craft rags that were made in the Netherlands from the 17th century to the 20th century. They were intended as practice pieces for young girls to learn and perfect different embroidery techniques, but they also served as a kind of portfolio of their skills. Various embroidery techniques were used on a typical sampler, such as cross stitch, flat stitch, running stitch, hemstitch and more. In addition, initials, dates, motifs, symbols and sayings were often embroidered. These elements could serve as personal touches or as instructions for the creator. I also inherited a beautiful practice piece from my grandmother, who loved needlework.
