Dutch traditional jewelry with a modern twist
From my studio I make jewelry inspired by old Dutch traditions, such as the so called Zeeland buttons. This jewelry is made of gold, silver, pearls , red coral and porcelain. Last year I created a Girl with the pearl earring collection for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as part of the Vermeer exhibition.

Welcome to Hester Zagt Jewelry
Welcome to my website! I would like to tell you what inspires me. I have been intrigued by traditional costumes since I was young. When I was young I always went on holiday to Havelte, where we always made a bike ride to Staphorst. I was amazed when I cycled through the streets and saw the women and children in traditional costumes. I wanted to wear such a costume too!
Dutch traditional jewelry
This wish is over but my love for these rich Dutch traditions is not over. For example, take a look at my Zeeuwse knoop jewelry , where I have created a collection inspired by the Zeeuwse knoopje. I like to combine the Zeeuwse knoop with blood coral, as this combination was also used in history. I have created a separate page for the red coral jewelry .
Delft Blue jewelry
In addition, I have created a collection that is inspired by Delft Blue. I have made the Delft Blue jewelry from porcelain, among other things. The ornaments are all hand-painted by a Delft Blue painter.
Porcelain jewelry
I like to use porcelain in my jewelry because you can get beautiful powdery colors with it and you can work with it in such beautiful detail. Take a look at my porcelain jewelry and see how detailed this material is. In addition to porcelain, I like to use pearls. I think the combination of pearls and porcelain is very beautiful.
Crocheted jewelry
My grandmother taught me the love of needlework. I sat next to her on the couch for hours, while she patiently taught me the tricks of needlework. That's how I learned to knit, embroider, and smocking. She also taught me to crochet. The pearl necklaces are crocheted with a very thin crochet hook, like a kind of lacework. Discover the collection of pearl jewelry that is an ode to my grandmother.
Swarovski jewelry
Very small was the step to make a collection of Swarovski jewelry in addition to this crocheted collection. The nice thing about these beads is that they are available in all colors and I make them with great pleasure for you. These jewelry are also crocheted with strong beige or black nylon thread.
Girl with the pearl jewelry
I recently made a collection for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as part of the Vermeer exhibition. I was allowed to make the Girl with the Pearl Earring jewelry especially for them. This was a special honor for me, especially because Johannes Vermeer is one of my favorite painters! The jewelry is of course made with pearls, silver and enamel. The color of the enamel is inspired by the color palette of the paintings. Take for example the blue and yellow in his paintings.
Natural jewelry
Recently, after living in Rotterdam for 26 years, I moved back to Zeist in the middle of the country. Nicely surrounded by forests. Coincidentally or not, this is where I made my collection of natural jewelry , from silver enamel, porcelain and pearls.
